Classic 80's romance

I want to warmly recommend this Harlequin classic. I have owned a copy for the last ten years and it's in quite a bad condition for the multiple reading.

This is the story of young woman who has renounced to romantic love and decided to become a nurse and a nun. She has to travel to an island to check on her sick sister who lives with her husband and his brother, a proud and passionate italian, signore Romano.

Upon meeting their relationship is one of challenge and deep provacation. Romano does call Nicky on her life decisions and her fear to face the world, her complexes and the starting attraction between them.

Dialogues are fun and very fast paced, the plot and drama keeps you reading until you turn the last page! The characters are unforgettable, especially the failing Nicky.

I place this romance among the top 5 I've read from Harlequin.

Sweet - I liked it!

Review: Even though it was written during the 80's I still liked it. I was sorta attracted to the book because I was curious about the heroine and her desire to be a nun. I went hmmm.... how in the heck is she going to end with the hero? I was a bit dissapointed that the heroine kept referring to herself that she was plain. I mean she looked sorta hot in the picture with her blonde hair! I gave it a four stars because of because a little itsy bitsy part of me didn't really believe the romance between the hero and heroine (then again not sure if there really is a real life Harlequin romance in the real world!) But otherwise, the book was a fast read and I liked the sort of mystery of the heroine's sister and her husband and their problems.

I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer - after reading many awful HQN's where despite the H's constant cruelty, affair with another woman or a relative, the h still manages to fall in love with him - this is a book in a million.

In compiling this new volume on heat treating, the challenge was to produce a book that contained subject matter strongly oriented toward industrial practice but that did not omit discussions of the underlying metallurgical fundamentals. With previously published ASM Handbooks devoted to heat treating, the omission of material on fundamentals was justified by either space limitations and/or the availability of other ASM books that described the physical metallurgy associated with thermal treatments. For example, when the 8th Edition was published in 1964, only 306 pages were related to heat treating (this Volume was divided between heat-treating technology and surface cleaning and finishing). As such, readers were referred to the classic book Principles of Heat Treatment by M.A. Grossmann and E.C. Bain, which was also published in 1964 by ASM. A similar situation arose in 1981 when the expanded 9th Edition Heat Treating Handbook was published. In the year prior to this publication, a completely revised version of the Grossmann/Bain book was prepared by G. Krauss and subsequently published by ASM.
The 1980s proved to be a dynamic period for heat-treating technology a decade that witnessed the introduction of new alloys and processes as well as new tools for understanding the response of heat-treated materials. For example, new alloys under active development or brought to market during the 1980s that were not described in previous heat-treating Handbooks included duplex stainless steels, microalloyed (HSLA) steels, low-cobalt maraging steels, austempered ductile iron, directionally solidified and single-crystal superalloys, and aluminum-lithium alloys.
Changes in processing include improvements in continuous annealing, induction heating, and surface hardening operations using lasers or electron beams, the commercial viability of plasma-assisted case-hardening processes, and advances in thermomechanical processing.
But by far the most dramatic changes in heat-treat technology that have marked the past decade have been those involving newly developed tools for improving process characterization and process control. These include improved instrumentation for controlling furnace temperature, furnace atmosphere, and surface carbon content, the practical application of statistical process control (SPC), and the use of computer modelling for both the prediction of hardness profiles after quenching and the quantitative modelling of properties after tempering or case hardening. It is this latter category of computer modelling that necessitates the inclusion of material on the basic principles or fundamentals of heat treating. For example, there are several articles in this Volume that deal with computer-assisted prediction of steel hardening and hardenability as a function of heat treatment parameters. In this regard, the primary measures of steel hardening are the end-quench hardenability curves (Jominy curves), isothermal transformation (IT) curves, and continuous cooling transformation (CCT) curves. In order to understand how computer programs can be used to calculate such diagrams, some brief background information is provided in several key articles to emphasize how these diagrams make possible the selection of steel and the design of proper heat treatments.

About the Author
Heat-treating technology has long been an area of deep interest and concern to ASM members. In fact, the origin of the Society can be traced back to 1913 when the Steel Treaters Club was launched in Detroit. This group joined with the American Steel Treaters Society to form the American Society for Steel Treating in 1920. It was the latter organization that issued the first bound Handbook in 1928, a volume that would serve as the prototype for future generations of the ASM Handbook.
During the ensuing six decades, many changes have taken place both in terms of the positioning of the Society and the technology base it serves. In 1933 a name change to the American Society for Metals completed the transition from an organization concerned primarily with heat treating to one that served the interests of the entire metals industry. Finally in 1987, the technical scope of the Society was further broadened to include the processing, properties, and applications of all engineering/structural materials, and thus ASM International was born.
Despite these momentous changes, one fact has remained unchanged ASM's recognition of heat treating as one of the foundations of the metals sciences and its unflagging commitment to this ever-changing technology. The publication of Volume 4 of the ASM Handbook is the most recent and significant example of the sustained leadership of the Society in addressing the needs of the heat treat community.
The present volume reflects the continuing research and effort that have led to a deeper understanding of the response of ferrous and nonferrous alloys to thermal treatments. For in the 10 years since publication of its 9th Edition predecessor, significant developments have taken place in quenching and hardenability studies, computer modelling of heat-treating operations, plasma-assisted case hardening methods, and improved quality control through advanced instrumentation and/or the application of statistical process control. These are but a few of the important topics that will undoubtedly contribute toward making the Heat Treating Handbook a timeless contribution to the literature.

Second Chance Summer

Second Chance Summer is my first read by Marie Carnay and I am impressed !!

This is not just any second chance romance. It's a story about a girl coming to term with who she is and the boys who help her realize it.

Summer Crenshaw, Blake Turner and Devin Rogers were the best of friends until one night when it all changed. Four years ago, they had a night of unbridled passion between them that left a lasting mark on each of their hearts. But Summer ran and she ran fast! Her young, insecure mind got the best of her and she ran as far away as she could without looking back. But she never forgot and she never stopped wishing ... and neither did Blake & Devin.

Today, Summer's best friend Mandy is getting married so she's back in Midnight Cove. She's not young and naive any more, but she's got a lot of baggage and expectations and insecurities that are fueled by her mother. Summer's not happy where she is in life but she feels powerless to change it ... until Blake & Devin walk back into her life.

Summer's journey was truly heartwarming to read. Marie Carnay made it so easy to read, that I never put it down once I started. She pulled me in with her style. Her prose was inviting and fun and the story had just the right amount of drama. The obstacles in Summer's path were Summer herself. And the story made sure to focus on that. Yes, there was small town drama thrown in and small-minded drama thrown in and even a little whoa, wait, what?.... thrown in, but none of it took away from the focus of Summer finding her inner self and grabbing on to the future she deserved with Devin and Blake.

Although it may seem on the surface that some things were left unresolved and some were wrapped up a little to quickly and neatly, I believe the reason behind that is not bad writing, but quite the opposite. Marie made a choice to focus on Devin and Blake and Summer and their HEA instead of dwelling on the outside drama. In my opinion, it was a choice well made. Not everything has to be spelled out in a story. It can drag a story out and take focus away from the main plot. Well done Marie.

PS ... The heat level to this story was scorching hot. The book is worth a read just for the sex alone #TRUST ;)

Where do I start? I've never felt this frustrated and disappointed in a heroine like the character of Summer. She was weak, easily swayed by other people's opinions, indecisive, whiny and basically just irritating. How can the men go for a woman like that? It makes me not like them, too if they're attracted to these characteristics. Blake and Devin were actually pretty likable I have to admit. If only they hooked up with Felicity instead! Oh, and don't get me started on the twist towards the end. Would you forgive your BEST friend if she took your place shortly after you left a relationship? The characters used grief as an excuse. Summer didn't DIE! She moved away! They said it was a mistake. A mistake is getting drunk and ending up in bed maybe for like a night(still not good). But Summer's BEST friend and Blake and Devin got together many times after. All the while the BEST friend was texting/emailing Summer to ask how she was doing. Omg! And Summer forgave her and everything was hunky dory after that - HEA! Can you tell how much this story bothered me? I've never written a bad review ever, but just finished this story and I had to vent!!! In the words of Donald Trump my disappointment is huuuuuge!

Second Chance Summer is the first book I have read by Ms. Carnay and I had no expectation other than to enjoy the book. I enjoyed this book. and was pleasantly surprised to find it a well written story. Literally it had a storyline not just a bunch of sex scenes

Devin and Blake were guys that were not looking for a ménage lifestyle but when it came their way they decided to explore it. Rocky does not even beginning to describe their trip to happiness. Secrets are revealed and not by them.

Now the female lead character made me want to slap her. She came off as weak, immature and so insecure that she did not stand up for herself. Always trying to please her mother who was never satisfied and the risk of her own happiness. The belittling of her looks and the comparison to the skinny women grated with me. The character did finally grow on me when she took control then she blossomed.

If you want to enjoy a love story then this is the book to read.

I love this author and this series

I love this author and this series. However this one was at times hard to follow. If you haven't read the others do not try to read this one. Second half of the story had so many different perspectives from so many different characters from all the previous novels that you would be extremely confused and unable to follow. Overall, its a good story with good characters that tug at your feelings, but she tries to fit so much of the past characters into the story that you tend to get overwhelmed and have to go back a page or two to reread and try to figure out what each character is responding to. I think she tried to fit too much into this story to tie it to the past ones and ended up loosing the main characters a little in the end. If you have read the others then maybe you can follow it better than I did.

Good, but sometimes a bit hard to follow

I have enjoyed the whole series, and I love the underlying sense of humor and whimsy. I do feel like there may have been a little too much going on with the various POVs. It would have been better to stick with the two main characters, I was confused at times and it pulled me out of the story trying to sort things out.

I want start this review off on a positive note. I am a big fan of this writer and have all her books that being said this was my least favorite of all her books. I was a little hesitant to get this book because it was about Kert but I got it regardless. I love the way she made me adore Kert, his character had so many layers which made him lovable. Kisme however the character wasn't as lovable and I know she was going for the whole opposite attract ... tough girl sweet guy but i think she missed the mark. The story was ok but as the other reviews noted, there where to many points of views, to many side stories at times it was so confusing that i had to re-read two or three times and I still felt like I was missing something. I also felt that there was'nt enough focus at the couple and their relationship. Not to mention the whole relationship with Kert and his mother. She came off rather selfish in a way and a bit unlikable, so did Dar's dad. I mean really the mom moves in with her boyfriend keeps it a secret for two months and pretends to live with Kert as has sex at her adults sons house on his furniture. Its bad enough finding you parents doing that but a boyfriend and in your house and the mom acts all hurt. Yes Kert might be a mom's boy but she made him that way not to mention that is that issues where he felt the need to protect his mother because of past abuse. So she let's her boyfriend call the shot and cuts off communication. am I the only one who see that as weird... There is more that the mom does but for some who has a close relationship with her son she sure kicks him to the curb quick.. I know there is so many i can say about this book but the many point it is a very confusing story. I wouldn't recommend this story but if its your first time reading this author I would try any of the others stories.
