The REEEAAAALLLL book to teach you how to write songs

This book might require basic theory in order to understand what is going on in the book, but this book is amazing! it teaches you how the professionals write the hit songs. Some people say this book sicks or something because this book doesnt teach you the style. It teaches you the skills to DEVELOP verse pre-chorus and chorus. Follow the things they teach in the book, it is impossible to write bad songs. Also, this is the actual textbook for song writing classes in Berklee college of music. Students use this book as their academic textbooks.

Good book, don't order on Kindle

I really liked this book, I thought the examples were good, and it was well put together. I especially liked the part about using or "resetting" other existing songs to help write your own material.

However, when I ordered this on the Kindle, I was hoping that the CD tracks would somehow be included-they weren't, so I am returning and getting the paperback version.

So order the paperback version, otherwise you will miss out on the CD tracks and examples, unless someone knows something I don't on how to get the tracks with the Kindle version.

Good reference on the openings

There are basically two popular 1 volume opening reference books, "Nunn's Chess Openings" and "Modern Chess Openings". I have heard many opinions as to which is better. I personally think that each has their individual strong points as to accuracy (I like Nunn better) and better coverage of more of the major openings (I like MCO better). So my advice? Get both and have the best of two worlds. If you are a beginner, or in search of that perfect opening to suit your style then you need a book that covers the ideas behind the openings and should book looking at books that cover that, such as "Understanding the Chess Openings" or a good opening trap book. You want to know the ideas behind the openings and not to just memorize lines.

The Opening Book for the Serious Student

This is the "GrandMaster" of opening books. I am a Master and I teach chess for a living. When my students want to learn an opening, or need a one volume reference for learning new openings, this is the book I recommend to them. A "MUST" for the Postal player! There is more information and fewer mistakes in this book, than any opening compendium I have ever seen! WARNING: If you are a casual chess player, or looking for for a book to help you improve and learn something, this is not the book you seek. This is a book for very serious chess players. If you have never used an opening book before, you will find this book a very difficult "read." Its just lines and recommendations for what is best in the openings. There are a great deal of symbols and lines that end with an evaluation like "White is slightly better." There is nothing that explains why White is better. Unless this type of dialogue would be useful to you, you are better off not buying this book.

I AGREE: EXCELLENT REFERENCE FOR STRONGER PLAYERS

Top Grandmaster analysis, computer-checked, state-of-the-art variations makes NCO an excellent reference for stronger or very serious players. However, BE WARNED, NCO has little or no prose explanations of its evaluations(You've got to figure out why White is better, worse, etc.), neither are "thematic" ideas discussed. And NCO does not give those plausible or discredited lines that Kasparov, Karpov, and Anand would never play but are played by that smug fellow at your local club (So you're still on your own, unless he does you the favor of playing the "best" lines). Finally, unless you're familiar with ECO cataloging, the format isn't all that friendly (You've got to know what the Benko Gambit is to look it up, for example). I am only rated USCF 1940, and prefer more tutorial advice than NCO gives, and really prefer Modern Chess Openings Edition 14 by N. DeFirmian as it also gives one page intros to the major lines (as does NCO) but ALSO gives prose evaluations as to why White is worse, better, etc.. It is also VERY easy to look up openings, and its introductions make one curious to play out an opening. Take a look also at Standard Chess Openings by Schiller which is filled with prose desriptions, discussion, and analysis of the openings, as well as opening tips, repertoire possibilities. The drawback though is that other players claim it is far shallower than either NCO or MCO, as well as being less accurate. I have NCO and MCO, the first is for "status" and the second, for use.

One of the two or three most useful astrology books I own

I use this book constantly when I'm interpreting horoscopes. Its main feature is a delineation of all major aspects (the geometric relationships between planets). Hamaker-Zondag's interpretations are clear, psychologically observant and non-dogmatic; there's a refreshing open-endedness here. The delineations are preceded by a helpful general discussion of aspects, with an emphasis on their elemental basis. A chapter on unaspected planets is also handy. If you want to start interpreting astrological charts, or get a deeper understanding of your own chart, this is definitely a book you can use.

A Cookbook for building Understanding

Overall, this is an excellent reference for planetary aspects and a learning guide as well for the student. Part I (nearly 1/3 of the book) has much to offer in understanding special problems such as unaspected planets and judging the importance of aspects. Additionally, much care is taken in the emphasis on understanding the basic nature of the planets.
The book did present me with a problem or two - the most obvious being the inclusion of the Inconjunct among major aspects while hiding explanation of the aspect under the heading of the Semisextile. Has the author not yet made up her mind as to its importance?

I want to give a 5 star rating, but ...

I want to give a 5 star rating, but I honestly cannot. Why? I have been crocheting for 40 years and I don't think the directions are clear. I've found that at the end of rounds when you are supposed to turn, it doesn't tell you to. The diagrams are confusing. I will, however, continue on working through the book. If I find the other heads are more clear (I am currently working on on the hare), I will repost.

Not for beginners but the finished products are awesome.

If I reviewed it solely on how much I love the concept and the outcome of my projects, I would want to give it 10 stars if I could. I love the projects I have made. I started with the mouse head, it took me only a few hours to complete. Then I moved on to the lion head, it took me a few weeks because I didn't work on it every hour of every day. They both turned out wonderful. The book has beautiful pictures and a great concept for crochet designs.

Now the reason for the 3 stars. The book is written in UK terms, with no indication that they are UK terms. I figured it out by comparing the photos and the written pattern. If you are going to sell a product in the US, please make sure you indicate that the terms are not in US. Once I figured that out, I was good to go. It's easy to find the conversion online of what the UK term means in US terms if you do not already know. Next, like other reviewers have mentioned, the patterns are not concise and clear. I had to go between the written pattern and the diagram. If you do not know how to read crochet charts, this will be a tough book for you. There are steps in the book that are unclear, I had to frog 10 rows on my Lion because I realized I was doing it wrong. The whole pattern of putting the head together had instructions, however when it came to final assembly, it was basically, figure it out on your own. This book does not have detailed instructions on placement, how and where to attach hair, eyes, nose - shaping of features, it's all very basic instructions and then you are on your own. There are also a lot of references to other patterns so you are jumping around in the book a lot. For example, use this part of the Ram pattern to start the Zebra pattern. It would have been just as easy for them to just reprint it, like they were trying to save ink instead of making you go all over the book just to make one pattern - but that is a pet peeve of mine.

Overall, I love the outcome of the 2 I have made so far, I will continue to make patterns from the book. If the others I make are easier, I may re-assess my 3 star rating. However, I believe the mouse is the easiest in the book and the Lion is probably one of the hardest so I have experienced both ends of the spectrum. I would recommend this book to experienced crocheters. It takes time, and patience for the final product but it is very worth it.

I'm not sure why people are having so many issues with the patterns. They are well written and I'm really enjoying making my zebra head! I would say it's not for beginners, but a seasoned hooker should have no problems,

I love Ellie, for someone with so many insecurities she ...

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
For an American, this book will be difficult to begin, (as it is based in England, and the education system is different from ours.) but once you get through that, the story moves along. I got hooked into it. I love Ellie, for someone with so many insecurities she has the making of an Alpha Female. She is mentally brilliant, physically beautiful and has a kind heart. The plot of the book is solid, and the twist and turns of her relationships kept me going to find out what happens next. I enjoyed the story, as there was more story than sex, and will add this to one of my favorites. Off to get the other 2 books in the series.

A Very Corporate Affair

This a very well written book! We are introduced to Elle as the biggest changes of her life start to happen. The characters are all interesting and leaving you wanting to know more about them, their motives, and how those motives will change Ells life. Then .....how does the best sex of you life figure into all of this?

With a special consideration for Canadians, it is a considered and thoughtful read that has particular focus on the Canadian social culture and concerns. Part of the story...

This is a simplified version of "how a horse thinks" geared to the beginning rider. As experienced equestrians who have panned this book have pointed out, the author has an oversimplified analysis of horse thinking, omitting entirely some of the amazing problem-solving skill capacity of horses. As a single source for an explanation of how horses (don't??!!) reason, it fails to explain why my gelding can turn on the water, or my mare can finagle a gate loop. But it does define some of the simpler reactions horses can have to certain stimuli which would be useful to someone new to horses, for example someone who thinks horses are like big dogs. But to seriously train a horse, understand his trouble-shooting skills or how he sees "punishment" (which is in fact conditioning behavior), perhaps additional sources should be considered. Not a bad book, but not comprehensive either.

Elegant writing, charming personal stories and great guide on how horses think

I have to say, I tried several of the techniques mentioned in this book and they worked like a charm! I discovered how beneficial it is to let your horse explore his/her surroundings and felt a noticeable appreciation from my mount during a recent ride. The philosophy of understanding how a horse behaves and training with positive feedback are perhaps the main themes of this book so i would definitely recommend it to those wishing to move away from the traditional, 'slap'em hard till they behave' approach.

Great book for anyone who really wants to understand horses

Am in the process of buying a horse for my granddaughters and a public charity, I learned SOO much about what to avoid and what to do once we get it from this book!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Writer is a professional horse trainer with years of experience, and the book is also full of great diagrams, charts and photos, which also show up well on the Kindle edition, which is what I got.
